Black Rock (2012)
I intentionally waited until this one was put on Netflix to watch it for free because I suspected it would be a little underwhelming. There’s technically 7 minutes still left of the film, but frankly I’m so uninterested in the ending I’m only half watching and half blogging now.
It’s kind of like Deliverance meets a weird college party, and as potentially cool as that sounds, its not very original and I didn’t really care about any of the characters living or dying.
The premise starts off pretty cheesy and forced- Sarah tricks her two best friends into camping at the trio’s favorite childhood island in an attempt to mend the bad feelings between Lou and Abbey. Why the two girls who hate each other would agree to this, I don’t know. They meet some dudes, shit happens, and they find themselves prey to their hunters. And the acting of the hunters was REALLY, I mean like, stupendously bad (which is pretty much what killed the film for me because its shot beautifully and the female leads are actually quite compelling).
It doesn’t necessarily belong in the horror section of your video rental store, and I’d give it a big “meh.” I recommend it for those times when you’d like to have TV on for background noise rather than planning your next popcorn-filled movie night in.
Sorry its been the everlasting fortnight of all times since I’ve last blogged… but I’m baaaaack.
